Forgotten Fortune
The film is sweet and easy… I really like that the film brings awareness of dementia. It was nice to see Lou Ferrigno, Jimmie Walker, Mark Sherwood, and Brian Shoop again — they all looked like they were having a blast making this. There’s a cute twist in Act 3, and keep watching for more clips during the rolling credits.
Forgotten Fortune distinguishes itself in a crowded cinematic landscape by confronting aging — our universal, undefeated antagonist — with compassion and a wink. Dementia may steal memories, but it can’t erase dignity, nor the instincts and intelligence that remain. That, ultimately, is the film’s quiet treasure: a reminder that even when the mind misplaces a few things, the heart rarely forgets.
Forgotten Fortune is a welcome film that brings attention to the unwelcome ailments of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Yet, what writer/director Stevie Fernandez Jr. demonstrates is that a diagnosis does not end the value of life. Fernandez is interested in sending a message about how to live a new normal with the elderly in the family — and spices up his message with some adventure. Intelligence and instinct can remain, and therefore trust and faith should be upheld. That’s the forgotten fortune of this film.
A modestly scaled, low-budget indie film that proves just how far strong storytelling and committed performances can go… The cinematography is a cut above what one might expect — compositions are thoughtfully framed to reflect Brian’s confusion and isolation, often using space and light to blur the line between what’s real and what might be imagined. What lingers long after the credits is its compassion: a deep respect for our elders, even when their memories falter, and a belief that their lives and stories still matter profoundly.
